Women’s Health and Gyn

A Balanced Life Health Care strives to be your women’s health care provider of choice. We offer a range of treatment approach alternatives based on research and real-life experience. Treatment options might include Chinese medicine, acupuncture, nutritional support, bioidentical hormone therapy, and more conventional treatments.

In the past you might have been told that there are no options for treatment besides a particular prescription or surgery. We work with creative approaches to “impossible” problems that may maximize your immune system, decrease systemic inflammation, or subdue autoimmunity. Our approach often improves health as a whole, while decreasing symptoms of the original problem.

A Balanced Life Health Care can provide diagnosis and/or treatment of women’s health issues including:

  • Annual exams, pap smears and referrals for screening mammograms
  • Screening for sexually transmitted infections
  • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)/premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Skipped, absent or irregular menstrual periods
  • Symptoms in perimenopause or menopause
  • Painful menstrual periods
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Endometriosis
  • Postmenopausal bleeding
  • Vaginal problems
  • Breast problems

Contraception: Helping patients find the right contraceptive method has been a major part of our practice since 1999. With in depth counseling and risk/benefit assessment, we help patients make the best contraceptive choices to meet their individual needs and circumstances. We provide a full range of choices including:

  • Oral contraceptives
  • Patches
  • Nuva Rings
  • DepoProvera
  • All IUD placements, removals, and management including: Paraguard, Mirena, and Skyla
  • Nexplanon
  • Diaphragm fittings
  • Natural Family Planning training

Management of abnormal pap smears and colposcopy: A patient often needs colposcopy when she has an abnormal pap smear and/ or a positive HPV test. A pap smear is only a screening test. The colposcopy provides more accurate information about the location and extent of the disease process on the cervix. We provide more time per appointment so that your experience is relaxed, personal, and caring. We also offer acupuncture and/or aromatherapy support, or a prescription on request, for the particularly anxious.

In addition to colposcopy, we perform a range of in office gynecological procedures. It is normal to be nervous about gynecological procedures. You deserve a provider who performs procedures in a safe, relaxed, and supportive atmosphere. With over ten years experience dealing with the most difficult and delicate cases, we are pleased to be your partner in health.

I had my initial appointment with Dr. Julie Kahn. I informed her that yes I’m 52 years old and have never had a mammogram and am completely terrified of the whole procedure. Never before has a doctor put me at such ease. She has a very gentle and caring manner. She found a heart murmur that I forgot about since I was 17 years old. She’s good I tell you. -DW
My initial visit to Dr. Kahn was for an IUD insertion. I will say first that I am one of the most skittish and suspicious patients when the doctor visit involves anything 'down there'. Walking up the stairs to her office I felt exceptionally anxious and was doubting whether or not the IUD was worth all this stress. However, the moment I walked through the door into her office and was greeted by the warm, calming, and gentle office assistant Katrina, I started to relax. My wait was short and when I met Dr. Kahn I felt my anxiety lessen an incredible amount. Dr. Kahn took as long as she needed to with me to ensure I completely understood the procedure and possible side effects. Suffice to say, I have never in my life met a more compassionate, capable, experienced, and wholly trustworthy doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Kahn and her wonderful staff and continue to be an exceptionally well taken care of patient. BG
